Boston mk IIIA serial number BZ296 coded RH-H airborne from Swanton Morley on a mission to attack a target in Rennes, France. After bombing the target the aircraft was seen to have an engine on fire and crashed at La Chapelle des Fougeretz. Pilot officer Angus attempted to bail out of the aircraft, but did not survive.

Runnymede Memorial
Was second pilot on Wellington mk XIV serial number MP758 coded N airborne from Limavady at 16:16 hrs for an anti-submarine patrol. At 21:09 a signal was intercepted by Wellington `B` that `N` was having engine trouble but that was all. Nothing further heard, a position was taken from this signal 60:2 - 14:02 which put them in area of action with U-283 at the Iceland-Faeroes gap so damage by fire from the U-boat. The U-boat reported successfully repulsing an aircraft attack with AA fire, but did not claim the aircraft shot down.

Lost when the destroyer HMS Laforey was sunk in the Mediterranean. On 29 March 1944 the German submarine U-223 was located by ASDIC on a destroyer. The U-boat was heavily depth-charged, but managed to carry out many evasive manoeuvres in an attempt to evade destruction. In the early morning on 30 March, the U-boat was forced to surface and was attacked by the destroyers with gunfire, by destroyers. Shortly before being sunk, U-223 fired a Gnat torpedo and hit HMS Laforey, which sank about 60 nautical miles northeast of Palermo, Sicily, Italy in position 38º54'N, 14º18'E. Among the 189 who lost their lives was the Commanding Officer of Laforey and the 14th Flotilla.

HMS Scorpion was sunk north of Banka Straits in position 01.25'S, 105.00'E by the Japanese light cruiser Yura and the Japanese destroyers Fubuki and Asagiri after being damaged by Japanese aircraft five days previously.

Collided with Hurricane P3668 near Newport at Chetwynd Aston, killing a unit instructor, 9th January 1942: ORB: “Two aircraft, Hurricanes P3055 and P3668 collided in air near Newport, Salop and the pilots, A/F/Lt M G Pascalis (91067) and A/Flying Officer D F Newsham (89811), both instructors, were killed”. Accident card: “P3055 collided in mid air with P3668 at 2000 feet carrying out a mock attack from astern, both a/c crashed out of control. AOC Unauthorised flying and air fighting practice contra to regulations for both pilots. 11.20 hrs.”

Lost when the light cruiser HMS Gloucester was sunk in the Eastern Mediterranean in the Antikythera Channel about 15 nautical miles west of Antikythera island, Greece in position 35º50'N, 23º00'E by German Ju-88 and Ju-87 bombers during the German invasion of Crete. The commanding officer, 45 officers and 648 men were killed when she sank.
