In March 1942, HMS Dorsetshire was a unit of the Eastern Fleet, based at Ceylon, and whilst undergoing a refit there it was halted on the approach of a Japanese carrier force April, the Japanese carrier planes attacked Ceylon, Dorsetshire in company the cruiser HMS Cornwall sailed with the intention of joining the Eastern Fleet off the Maldives, On April 5th, a spotter plane from a Japanese aircraft carrier sighted the two cruisers in the Bay of Bengal. A total of 53 bombers from the carriers sunk the two ships, 1,122 men from a total of 1,546 were later rescued by the cruiser HMS Enterprise and the British destroyers HMS Paladin and HMS Panther. Dorsetshire was sunk in position 01º54'N, 77º45'E in about 8 minutes by 10 hits from 250 - 550 pound bombs, and several near misses. The HA magazine exploded, which doubtless counted in part for her rapid sinking.

Leopoldsburg War Cemetery
Killed in action on the Albert Canal, Belgium around the town of Heppen with 4 Company. Died in the area of Heppen, near Leopoldsburg, Belgium as the Allied Forces pushed towards Germany. On the 8th September 1944, the 5th Battalion supported by tanks of the 1st (Armoured) Battalion, advanced to try to capture Bourg Leopold. In spite of launching five attacks in 36 hours, the Coldstream Group could not capture Bourg Leopold itself, but established itself in Heppen. Coldstream Group, coming from Tessenderlo, crossed the Albert Canal with the task of taking over the mining area of the Irish Guards and then continue on to snatch Beverlo and Heppen.

On 29 Feb 1944, U-358 was located by four frigates of the 1st Escort Group north-northeast of the Azores. HMS Affleck, HMS Gould, HMS Gore and HMS Garlies dropped 104 depth charges in the subsequent attacks, which were continued all throughout the night. The next day, 1 March HMS Gore and HMS Garlies had to withdraw to Gibraltar for fuel, but the other two frigates continued the attack. In the afternoon, U-358 succeeded in torpedoing and sinking HMS Gould with a Gnat torpedo, but was then forced to surface after being submerged for 38 hours and was sunk by gunfire by HMS Affleck. Gould lost its commander, six officers and 116 ratings.

At 04.06 hours on 19 August 1941, U-201 fired a salvo of four torpedoes at the convoy OG-71 west-southwest of Fastnet Rock and observed two detonations on a tanker and two further detonations on two ships beyond her. Schnee claimed three ships sunk with 20,000 grt, but in fact the Ciscar and Aguila were sunk. The Aguila was the ship of the convoy commodore and sank within 90 seconds after being hit by two torpedoes. The commodore, five naval staff members, five gunners, 54 crew members and 88 passengers were lost.
