Lancaster III serial ED477 coded WS-O airborne at 23:49 from Waddington on an operation to Hamburg, brought down 15km SSW of Bremen at 0300, crashing in flames at Ristedt on ‘Ristedt Moor’, a pasture land belonging to a farmer named Jakob. All seven crew were first buried in the Prisoner of War Cemetery at Vechta on 2 February 1943
