Killed in action near Grainville-sur-Odon. As part of Operation Epsom 227 Brigade were tasked with capturing Grainville, with 10 HLI's specific target being Gavrus bridge. They crossed the start line at 4:45 and ran straight into tanks and infantry of 12th SS being pinned down at the southern end of Le Haut du Bosq.

He was killed by a German sniper whilst in an apple orchard in Normandy near Fontenay-Le-Pesnel

Son of John and Janet Farrelly; Husband of Mina Farrelly, of Stannington, Yorkshire.

16/17th August 43, 23 sqdn, Single strafing sorties carried out, Sgt Farelly (Mosquito HX820) went to Taranto, and was later heard to call that he was returning on one engine. In an attempt to land at Cassibille, the Mosquito overshot and crashed and burned out. Sgt Sabine was killed instantly, Sgt Farelley died of his injuries shortly afterwards.

Lancaster mk III serial DV239 coded QR-V took off from RAF Syerston at 23:05, detailed to bomb Hanover, Germany. Nothing was heard from the aircraft after take off and it failed to return to base. In fact it had crashed at 01:24 onto the Burgfreide allotments bordering the Helmkestrasse at Hanover-Hamholz.
